We’re a Berlin-based startup who develop, launch, and operate used-automotive marketplaces within emerging market economies, with operations in Nigeria, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Pakistan, and Indonesia. Additionally, we are successfully engaging in two joint ventures with OLX in India and Poland. We increase the efficiency of selling and buying cars through technology, infra-structure creation, access to capital and innovative business models that allows all stakeholders to gain from our impact.
The company was founded in April 2016 by serial entrepreneur Sujay Tyle, emerging markets specialist Peter Lindholm and experienced team lead André Kussmann. Operations officially launched in September 2016 and we’ve quickly grown from a small scale to managing a large amount of monthly transactions across our component companies just one year after launch.
Emerging markets represent a huge stake of used-car market size across the world. These massive markets, combined with a gap to developed nations on innovation, technology and access to capital, makes us perfectly placed to lead the digitization of the automotive sales sector. Emerging markets have large, young populations who are increasingly adopting new technologies, upgrading their cars more frequently and who are more and more concerned about wasting their time with bureaucracy and inefficiencies
Our team is composed of over 2000 people across its five existing operational markets, with additional staff based in Sweden, the United States, and at its Berlin HQ.
Sujay was most recently a partner at Kingsway Capital, a London-based emerging-markets focused fund. Prior, he was on the founding team of Hired.com (a talent marketplace) as its COO. Hired has now raised $53m in funding and operates in Australia, Europe, and the US. Before Hired, Sujay was VP of Business Development at Scopely. Sujay entered Harvard at age 15, before leaving with a Thiel Fellowship. Sujay was named one of Forbes’ 30 under and one of Goldman Sachs’ top 100 intriguing entrepreneurs.
Formerly working within Kinnevik companies for last 6 years (Millicom, MTG, Qliro Group, Rocket Internet). Peter managed the $195M investment into Rocket Internet and was a part of management teams in different roles for multiple small launch-stage and large ventures (3-150 MUSD revenues) in both developed and developing markets. He has been launching and setting up teams since he was 18. MSc BA from top Swedish University.
Full stack developer (frontend & backend) with strong background in both software and hardware solutions. Formally the Director of Engineering for WKDA/Auto1 and with experience from both start-ups (Parku, Youtailor, Amerano) and corporates (Deutsche Telekom). Lead the significant expansion of the Auto1 development team from 40 to 70 people over the last year.
Founded / Cofounded multiple global businesses, among other emerging market mobile phone brand Azumi, which he exited in 2015 and lead to a USD 150m yearly revenues company. He has conducted multiple turnarounds successfully and is a partner of Manutara Ventures, a Latam based investing vehicle focused on tech companies in the Americas. He studied BA and holds an MBA from ESEM.
Formerly worked within product development for home24 (Rocket Internet), Boston Consulting Group Digital Ventures, HeavenHR and many more. Florian has extensive product experience combined with a technical background.
Peter Malmqvist has several years of Management experience in Finance, working in Sweden, Italy, Germany and the Middle East. After his studies in Stockholm and New York, Peter started his career at E&Y at their Stockholm and Berlin offices. Peter most recently worked as Head of International Finance at Auto1, after holding the position of Finance Manager in the Middle East. Peter also speaks fluent English, German, Italian, Swedish, and is a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).
Ignacio starts his career in consulting, becomes CFO of one of the biggest chemical companies in Chile, and Co-Found a few startups related to the car and mobility industries. He has a degree in Economics and Business Administration in the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile.
Bernhard Weisshuhn is an agile team lead with 16+ years of hands-on experience in current technologies, system architecture, development and operations.
